2014-2015 School Year Information
We are looking forward to the beginning of the 2014-2015 school year at Power House High. The following information will help you plan for the year ahead.
There will be no school on Friday, August 29 (standardized testing for DRW) and there will be no school on Monday, September 2 for the Labor Day holiday.
School Day Schedule
School day from Monday-Thursday is from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Fridays. School begins at 8:30 a.m. sharp.
One application is required per household listing each PHH student. All students must have a lunch form on file even if they decline to eat breakfast and lunch. Once you receive your lunch status (free, reduced, full), you can choose to participate or decline your enrollment in the food program. If the lunch form is not turned in by the due date, students will NOT receive a meal the first week of school.
Student Code of Conduct was distributed at Senior Orientation Please read, however, information in the next column pertaining to Dress Code and Attendance.
School Activity Fee for Grade 12 is $140, which includes yearbook and graduation costs.
A payment plan may be set up in order to pay fees. All activity fees are due by April 1, 2015; otherwise, students are at risk of no participating in senior end-of-year activities such as prom, senior luncheon, or the graduation ceremony.
Dress Code and Attendance
All students are required to be in dress code (school polo, khaki pants, black belt and black dress shoes at orientation and the rest of the school year). School polos and cardigans may be purchased in the Main Office on the 2nd floor.
The following are NOT permitted and students will be sent home: Skinny pants, leggings, jeans, black shoes with white or non-black soles, shoes that are not solid black color and solid material (no laced shoes, moccasins, sandals or slippers), baggy khakis, or altered shirts.
Students are required to be on time and in attendance every day. 70% of detentions earned by students this past year were due to tardies. Please make an effort to get your child to school on time.
Sports and Extracurricular Activities
We intend to offer a variety of athletic and extracurricular activities after school. We encourage all students to become involved in a sport or activity. Additional information and forms will be available at orientation.
CTA student riding permits will be available at orientation at a cost of $5.00.
Other Forms Due
Emergency Contact Form, Photo Release Form, Proof of Address (each year you must provide proof of residence, e.g., a utility bill, lease or mortgage stub; we will make a copy and return the original; students must live with their parent or legal guardian in the City of Chicago in order to attend PHH).
